Heritage is a link between past and present and a legacy for the future. During the past 5,000 years of its known history, the country has seen the rise and fall of many civilizations, empires and dynasties. Each one of them left a unique and indelible impression in the form of their monuments, forts, stupas, stone temples, sculptures, splendid caves, monastic shelters, civilization remains, etc.The rich wealth of India’s heritage sites is almost boundless. The heritage attractions of the country are scattered far and wide in every Indian city or state, providing a great opportunity for historical travellers. There are 36 (28 cultural, 7 natural and 1 mixed) World Heritage Sites in India that are recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as of July, 2017.
